Back to Bach... What great wordplay!

And it's also a nice title for a program! It almost seems to want to play with the spectator who certainly expects J.S. Bach, but who does not really know where this program may lead... Certainly in a place where art is the world and, where the world is art. We must thank Marija Jovanovic who is the head, but with her musical instrument together with our performers, the heart itself behind this initiative!

We asked her why she chose this title and she explained that when you make Baroque music and you immerse yourself in this genre, there is one great point of reference: J.S. Bach. "He's the greatest master for all of us" she says, "and here we play Vivaldi (another great one) because we're in Venice, but playing Bach, well it's like coming home. A return to the origins, the alpha and the omega for music (baroque and classical), and for the musicians themselves ".

Marija Jovanovic has chosen to bring back to light all the sonatas for harpsichord obbligato and solo instruments by the composer; but there are so many that the programs will be organized in installments, dedicating each concert to a different solo instrument (viola da gamba, flute and more).

Rosita Ippolito obtained the viola da gamba diploma at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory of Florence with Paolo Biordi, and she went on to specialize with Cristiano Contadin and Rodney Prada at the Civica Scuola di Musica of Milan. Since 1997 she collaborates as soloist and basso continuo player with various ensembles specialized in Early Music, like Modo Antiquo, La Venexiana, Sezione Aurea, the Orchestra Barocca di Bologna, La Dafne, with whom she performs in Italy and abroad.

She played under the direction of internationally recognized directors, performing in some of the most prestigious early music festivals of Europe, among others: Misteria Paschalia (Cracovia, Poland, 2011); Semana de la Musica Sacra (Cuenca, Spain 2011); Ravenna Festival (Ravenna, Italy, 2012 and 2013); Sagra Musicale Malatestiana (Rimini, Italy, 2013), Festival MITO (Turin – Milan, Italy, 2013). She has played the J. S. Bach’s three viola da gamba Sonatas at the Festival of the Accademia Bizantina in Ravenna. She also collaborates with musicians of different musical genres, like Emanuele De Raymondi, Angelo Branduardi and Daniele Sepe. She has participated to the realization and arrangement of original music for theatrical performances, like Giorgio Diritti’s Gli occhi, gli alberi, le foglie (2012); Zero (2008), written and interpreted by Massimiliano Bruno; La fabulosa historia di un burattino (2011), with Commedia dell’Arte puppets; and poetry-readings with, among others, Roberto Herlizka (2004), Edoardo Sanguineti (2008), Matteo Belli (2009), Giorgio Comaschi (2013). She has recorded for various CD labels, like Brilliant, Clavis, EMI Classics, Sony, Tactus. She graduated in Political Sciences and has a PHD in History of Music. She actually lives in Bologna where she teaches viola da gamba at the “La Musica Interna” Accademy.

Elena Biscuola gained her diploma in "Vocal Chamber Music" with full marks and special mention, under Maestro Erik Battaglia's guidance, singing at the Conservatorio in Turin. She then specialized in the German Lied with D.F. Dieskau and I. Gage. In 2004 she was awarded the prize for the best interpretation in the Third International Competition of Lyric and Chamber Singing in Vercelli, and the second prize (first prize not assigned) in the category "Chamber and Sacred Music". In 2006, she received the prize as "best duo" with Marina D'Ambroso, and third prize at the 22nd International Competition of Chamber Vocal Music in Conegliano.
Her romantic repertoire led her to work with conductors such as A. Ballista, R. Buchbinder and T. Severini. At the same time, she studied "Ancient Music" and gained a degree with full marks and special mention in "Renaissance and Baroque Singing" at the Conservatorio in Vicenza. In 1999, with the ensemble Vox Altera, she won the International Competition "Luca Marenzio" for Madrigal Unaccompanied Voices. She performed in the main festivals of Ancient Music in Italy, as well as abroad, singing with various groups and collaborating with many conductors. She has recorded for Amadeus, Chandos, Gaudeamus, Onclassical, Naxos, Tactus and Bottega Discantica.
Marija Jovanovic, born in Belgrade, concluded her studies in Organ at the University of Belgrade and then at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Venice with R. Padoin. In 2005 she graduated with the highest grades in Harpsichord under M. Vincenzi and in 2009 she took her masters degree with the highest grades in Harpsichord and historical keyboard instruments. Her interest in Baroque and Renaissance music has inspired her to take courses with H.Vogel, P.Crivellaro, L.Ghielmi, H.Faghius, U.Forni and F.Cera in Italy, Germany and Holland.

Her interest in Baroque and Renaissance music has inspired her to take courses with H.Vogel, P.Crivellaro, L.Ghielmi, H.Faghius, U.Forni and F.Cera in Italy, Germany and Holland. In 2013 she graduated in Gregorian chant with L.Menga and since 2009 she has been singing with a renaissance group Un unum ensemble and later Oktoechos. She continues performing as a soloist organist and harpsichord player and also as a member of the basso continuo in various chamber music groups. In 2013 she collaborated on two operas with the Kammeroper theater of Wien with directors R. Dubrovsky and A.Curtis. In the last years she often collaborated with contemporary composers, performing as a soloist at various festivals, including the 56th International Festival of contemporary music - Biennale di Venezia. She recorded as a harpsichord player and a singer for labels: Amadeus, Tactus and Urania records. Since 2001 she has been the organist of St. Georges Anglican church in Venice.
