Alexander Simpson

Praised for his ‘extraordinary stage presence’ and ‘sublimely melodic voice’, Alexander Simpson is a versatile young countertenor who has been earmarked as ‘the voice of his generation’. 

Recent operatic roles include Nireno Giulio Cesare (English Touring Opera), Cowslip Fairy Queen (Waterperry Opera Festival), Athamas Semele (Royal Academy of Music), Arsace Partenope (Iford Arts Festival), Arcane Teseo (London Handel Festival) and Refugee Flight (Royal Academy Opera)

Prizes include the Accademia Vivaldi Scholarship at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, both the Rosalind Armstrong Prize and the Tony Lowrey Audience Prize in the Hurn Court Opera Singing Competition and the Rosenblatt Recitals Singing Prize.

Frequent collaborations with ArtHouse Jersey, Venice Music Project and the Phoenix Ensemble in Israel keep Alexander’s diary packed with concerts and recitals across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. 

Alexander read Music at St John’s College, Cambridge where he was a choral scholar under Andrew Nethsingha. He went on to the Royal Academy of Music where he was awarded a full scholarship and graduated with a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. He completed two more years with Royal Academy Opera where he studied with Michael Chance, Caitlin Hulcup.
